Ida Louise Jackson (October 12, 1902 - March 8, 1996) was an African American educator and philanthropist. She attended Rust College and New Orleans College(now Dillard University), before moving west with her family. She graduated from U.C. Berkeley in 1923. Jackson was the first African American teacher in the Oakland Public Schools, where she worked as a teacher and a counselor for almost 30 years. She also worked toward a doctorate in education at Columbia University, and briefly served as dean of women at Tuskegee Institute. Jackson founded the Rho Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority at U.C. Berkeley. From 1934 to 1938 as national president of the sorority she was integral in establishing mobile health clinics and a teacher training institute in rural Mississippi. She received the Berkeley Citation from U.C. Berkeley in 1981. She endowed a fellowship for African American Ph.D. students and a graduate student dormitory was named for her in 2004.
